Danelle: Sailerite! This is the type of slug that was on my original equipment sail: http://www.sailrite.com/Slug-Bail-Without-Rocker-1-2 Mounted with the shackles and plastic sleeve over the bolt rope. You are going to need some brass or stainless grommets, as you probably don't have a hole in the sail where you need them. That also means the tool to punch out the holes and grommet setter. No big deal and easy to do. And all available from sailrite. If you are the handy type, you may want to consider sewing up a new jib and/or possibly adding a second set of reef points in your main. They can help you with that too. ************ I was concerned reading your post on sailing with that 150% genny in big wind and heeling 25 to 30. If you don't have one, I'd like to see you get a small jib to sail with a reefed or double reefed main. In that much wind, I'd be sailing my double reefed main and heavy built 65% storm jib, heeled no more than 15 degrees and flying along at 5 knots plus......and in control. I always hoist my main first. If I leave the boom clipped to the backstay, she quickly points head to wind and will continue sailing on one tack while I go forward to raise the jib. If I unclip the main, which seems safer, she will continue sailing, only faster. Will also tack, gybe and perform all kinds of stunts. I don't think you want any kind of drag devise. Might slow you down to get started, but those are really tough to retrieve. You might also try letting the main flog while you let your motor at an idle forward in gear, with the motor centered and tiller lashed amidships, heading slightly into the wind or just one side of it. Take em down in reverse. Head sail first, then the main. Howard On Jun 30, 2008, at 12:14 AM, Danelle Landis wrote:
I just visited west marine, and am very confused about the sail slug ordering. Can anyone give me the exact item I should order to get the right item to convert to sail slugs from the mainsail bolt rope? Doesn't have to be Westmarine, of course! I see the thing called "Battcar" and all I can think of is that it has something to do with the "Battcave" and the "Battmobile" and Robin, and the commissioner... Too late for me, I think!
