Hi Jeff, Just a quick note. When you do a photo shoot of your new M23, use a setting of 1024X768 or larger. And larger is better to retain resolution. I'd love to see another M23 on the site, so when the pictures are available please let me know and I'll make a page for her. Pretty soon we'll have all of the M23's on the site! Happy New Year everyone:
My wife and I have decided on a name for the 23 we acquired in October. "Clarity" it will be as sailing has always helped me to clear away the cobwebs of my life. Since this boat didn't have a name, I'm not sure if re-naming ceremony is in order or just simply a naming ceremony on launch day. Any thoughts?
Bones, I have searched the internet and have not found any replacement centerboard winches of the type you and I have. I looked on the photo site and yours looks exactly the same as mine. I think I will try to rework the one I have. Most of what I have found is trailer winches that will hold about 50 to 100 feet of cable. Nothing as small and compact as what we have.
A couple of other questions for anyone. My boat was listed as a 1982. The HIN is: MMP231111D82. The number 111 is on my mainsail which I believe is original as the boat hasn't been used since 1991. Does this indicate that the hull number of my boat is #111? In looking at the photo site I noticed that many of the 23's are listed as 1979's. Not many 80's, 81's or 82's. I wondered when production stopped and whether mine was one of the last ones built.
Also, I need to replace at least a couple of the shrouds this year. I have not had any luck finding the type of turnbuckles that I have. I like them and would like to keep them all the same. They are not the typical open or closed body type with the stud fittings on the wire and chainplates. They are open bodied on the wire and chainplate ends, with a central stud threaded opposite on each end and with a hex in the center to tighten with a wrench. I wondered if they are aircraft type fittings. Anyway, I have not been able to find them online. Any leads would be appreciated.
Looking forward to eventually sending in some photos and info to post on the MSOG site under M-23 owners.
Any help on those turnbuckles would be appreciated Jeff M-23 "Clarity" _______________________________________________ http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/montgomery_boats
