Henry, I attached a 2x4 block to the top of the winch bracket. This allows me to store the motor in the upright, mounted position when traveling. I have a garage when the boat is stored at home, so I don't have any security issues. However, I have never traveled more then a days drive from home, so I've never had to worry about security during an overnight stay. I would think I could be stored in the cabin, locked during the night. Pay close attention to the position of the motor while laying down. The manufacture does recommend specific placement to avoid damage/flooding of the engine. On the cabin floor? Cockpit sole? In the vehicle? On the transom (heaven forbid!) Henry Sent from my Windows 10 phone
