M_Boats: Outboards

Dear Fellow Montgomery Owners, I have a 2 hp Johnson Sea Horse outboard on my 1983 Montgomery 15. I am ready to purchase a brand new outboard because I need peace of mind for going across the Catalina Channel. I have the old style motor mount that is not adjustable. I am asking for any advice about engines from anyone who is willing to share their experience and opinions so that I can make the wisest choice when I shop for an engine.
