To reef, you would just lower the jib to the higher grommet, and use that point as your new tack location. You then move your sheets to the upper grommet, and your jib has now been decreased in area by about 1/2. For slab reefing on the main you need a fitting at the top of the gooseneck with two hooks (opening downwards). To reef the main, you release the main halyard and let the main lower to the point where you can hook the slab-reefing grommet in the hook at the gooseneck. You have another grommet on the leach and you run a line through it and pull it down to the boom and fasten it. Now your main sail is reefed. You should have a few more grommets on the same line as the other two which then allow you to tidy up the bellying sail and properly secure it. ------------------------------- We've left Connecticut and now are living in Dallas Texas, but without any boat toys. After reading some of your comments about the sails bagging - I figure I need new sails. Besides the main sail , I wanted to buy 2 jibs. But as I was reading some old articles written by Jerry, I noticed he talks about slab reefing & said the jib has reefing. I don't have any reefing on the jib. Also, is there an attachment that should be on the gooseneck? I do not have a boom vang. What do I need besides new sails?
