A rookies take. Lighter the better for light wind. Heavier is nicer in the hand. I would lean to 5/16 sta-set, but 3/8 might be more practical.

A sail-rite document ( https://www.sailrite.com/PDF/Rope%20Selection%20Recommendations.pdf) has a table of recommended diameters, and it looks like 5/16" would work for my M17.
Does that sound reasonable?
