the standard as built by Jerry is for the mast extrusion to be 19', with the masthead fitting making the overall length 19'2". there are different lengths for M15 masts ... some are short as a result of damage and Bob's masts are longer than Jerry's spec. i've attached, i hope it comes through, to this email a 'spec' for the M15 mast from 1985 (this comes from the msogphotosite.com) the current-build M15s are using the DM4. as Jerry states the DM3 will also work. a DM4 mast, with sail feed and masthead fitting, will cost you about $245 + shipping. the DM3 mast is a bit less expensive at about $200. the DM3 uses a smaller tabernacle than the DM4, so this will add another $25 ... making the total $225 + shipping. the DM3 is a nice alternative as it is lighter than the stock mast (less weight aloft), bends a bit more ('auto' reefing) and is smaller (less windage). remember, you may also need a pivot pin. then there is the need for a boom and gooseneck if you are missing 'the entire rig'. for mast shipping expect about $130 ... but this depends a lot on how far from Dwyer you live. :: Dave Scobie :: former M15 owner - www.freewebs.com - m15-named-scred :: M17 #375 SWEET PEA - www.m17-375.webs.com --- On Mon, 3/18/13, Chris Smith <chris.r.smith@gmail.com> wrote:
Hello all,
I know that there has been some discussion on Mast length (which I think was settled around 18.5'), but I've got a question about the widths. I currently am using a cut down mast from a catamaran that, from looking at pictures of M15s, is WAY oversized - adding not unconsiderable antiballast.
I had the information once, but have forgotten. Here is the resource I was using from Dwyer Mast Company.<https://www.dwyermast.com/families.asp?cat1ID=20&cat1Name=Masts> I believe it was the DM3 or DM4, but I can't remember.
How much wiggle room is there in mast sizing? I purchased a couple masts on the cheap last year, then found out they were a bit slimmer than they should be. I'd hate for them to bend while out sailing..
Now I've found one that they guy says is 2.5x2 at this craigslist post.<http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/boa/3681294101.html>
Thank you, my collective Montgomery brain!
