I use an old handheld gps with plotter only functions and a Garmin gps/chart plotter with preloaded navigation Bluecharts. The handheld shows only a "bread crumb" trail. The gps/chartplotter shows position on a nav chart and a trail. While the gps is accurate, plotting it's position on a chart can be dangerous. It's quite normal for both paper and electronic charts to be off enough in some areas to mislead you. I verify locations with my gps before using them for critical navigation.
