PPS - actually you can see everything for 2nd reef for the clew but the line, because it was not in place when these pics were taken. The block for it on the boom can be seen in the pic showing the boom from aft end to outhaul/reefing clamcleats - it is quite a ways forward of the others. The clamcleat for 2nd reef can also be seen uppermost in the closeup of 3 clamcleats, middle one for 1st reef, lower one for regular outhaul. The two shots of aft end of boom are not so much about reefing - instead they show the outhaul rigged in a way that it also hold the clew down. Done this way, a separate line or strap around the boom to hold the clew down is not needed. Found this also in some rigging tips online. cheers, John On 6/29/21 9:12 AM, John Schinnerer wrote:
PS - this only shows the line for the regular outhaul, and the first reef. Lines and blocks for the 2nd reef are not in place in these pics.

Here's some pix (if attachments are allowed) of my re-done reefing setup, following the systems described in the article I just posted.
This is on an M17 but would be similar for any boat...I have two reefs but you may only have one in your mainsail.
I can send bigger versions directly if helpful, these are small because I'm not sure what the attachment limit is on this list.
cheers, John
