CBC 2005 on the Choptank Bay (no current) - 16 - 20 kt winds - broadreach - reefed main and working jib - surfing on a wave GPS logged 7.4 as max speed in my M15. The next day we crossed the Chesapeake with 8 - 12 kt winds and the GPS never read less than 4 kts and consistently hovered around 5 kts with surges to 5.5 Full main, working jib. --- Norm Lane <nl@sagatech.com> wrote:
Does surfing down the side of a swell count? I saw 6.5 in my M-15 several times the last time I was out.
Don't forget that a GPS is going to include any boost you get from a current.

Yesterday our GPS showed Endelig traveling at 6.1 MPH( our best so far) on a broad reach in about 10-14 mph winds. I was looking for the water skis. How fast will these little boats go???
