Hi John-- I'm planning a trip to Kentucky Lake in October. It was originally planned for late October or early November, but I moved it up toearly November . Moving it forward 3 weeks means that there will be an extra 50 minutes of daylight for sailing and settling in at an anchorage. It also means that I can squeeze in 1-2 nights of cruising here in eastern North Carolina in early November.
I plan to launch near Grand River at the north end of the Lake; probably at Lighthouse Landing. They offer a free ramp and parking, plus they sell charts right there.
I need to re-do my research on historical wind patterns for early October but possible destinations include: Duncan Bay, Smith Bay, Sugar Bay, &, if the winds are kind, Kenlake Marina.
The exact date is not finalized. I'm waiting to hear about a sailing program here in NC that I committed myself too. However, it would be one of these two time periods:
Option 1: Launch on Saturday, October 9 Anchor Saturday and Sunday Recover on Monday, October 11
Option 2: Launch on Wednesday, October 6 Anchor Wednesday and Thursday Recover on Friday, October 8
The trip would include two nights at anchor. For the first day, I'd launch before noon and be sailing by 1:00 PM. On the 3rd day, I'd be back at the ramp by 1:00 PM so that driving in the dark is minimized.
Let me know if you are interested and I'll send you further information. Cheers, Mike Murphy, *Fionnula * M-15

Doug mentioned that a trip to Kentucky Lake in October. Somehow I missed that thread. Would someone bring me up to speed? I was planning a trip
to
the Chesapeake around that time but Kentucky Lake sounds interesting.
