M_Boats: Slugs on the mainsail

Would someone tell me what size slugs to specify to a sailmaker when I have slugs placed on my mainsail? Is measuring as simple as sliding a wooden dowel into the track and then measuring the diameter of the dowel in fractions of an inch or is there some sort of industry jargon like gauge as in wire size or shotgun pellet size or.....?
