Harvey,
I purchased my M-17 in Tempe, AZ and live in Oregon.  Hauled her home with a newer 4 cyl. Toyota truck no problem and no surge brakes.  Nice the seller will meet half way.  Have a great trip  it's worth it!

I trailered a M17 without surge brakes and do not think they are necessary unless you are traveling in extremely mountainous areas.

I guess your boat has the mainsheet traveler set into the cockpit floor.
Older boats, like my '79 M-17 has it attached to the benches just behind
the companionway hatch.

Thanks for the heads up on the trailer maintenance.  I noticed that the trailer does not have surge breaks.  I am thinking of having them put on prior to the trip. Do you know if any one has done this?

The haul is 2000 mi. fortunately the present owner has agreed as part of the sale to bring it half way. Our plan is to make the exchange at Lake Carlyle in IL just out side of ST Louis.

I am planning on moving the traveler to the position you described in your boat as I believe it is more convenient when single handling.
