M_Boats: New Old M-17

We are about done restoring our 1978 M-17 except for the patchy blue anti-fouling paint that tightly clings to parts of her bottom. I was planning on using "Peel Away" to get rid of the offending paint and have the boat go without bottom paint. I have been advised that using any paint remover might seriously damage the gel coat, especially one as old as mine. If I can't remove the old paint, I want to paint over it. I don't need an anti-fouling paint as my boat will be on the trailer. Do you have any suggestions? Bill M-17 Endelig #279
