Hi Gang, I own the inexpensive Garmin Etrex and also found it to be a useful basic GPS system, it worked fine for Theo and I in the North Channel WITH the aid of charts and current tables. I wanted to go up a step and get a WAAS model before the North Channel trip and have recently purchased a used 76MAP Garmin. This has a lot of useful features, maps pre-loaded, is upgradeable, and is reasonably priced. My 2 cents. Bones
