The following was the response I got for shipping a 20 ft boat from England to the US. It was based on using a 40 ft container as the 20 ft containers are becoming rare. It included the trailer but the cost was a combination of the weight and container size with the biggest effect the container size. "Just to let you know that a 40ft container to Baltimore from the UK will cost £1850.00". This is just shy of $3000. As a pipe dream, I've been thinking about shipping it the way one ships a car, on its trailer, on a container ship, a month before getting here. Then flying here, sailing for a couple of weeks along the coast, sleeping on the boat, and then shipping it back. Does anyone have any idea if this would be prohibitively expensive? Of course it would probably be simpler to rent a boat here, but given that a Laser costs $50/hour, and a Hobie 15 $80/hour, I wonder if that is not even more expensive.
