The heat gun and scraper is a pretty efficient way to go, but wood sure scorches quickly. I learned the hard way, and I couldn't sand it out. Of course, I learn most things the hard way. I finished the job with just a scraper. Rick M17 #633 Lynne L On Friday, November 15, 2013, bownez@juno.com wrote:
Hi Gang,
Well, time has come to re-varnish the M23 rudder (again) and thought I'd ask the collective group about the best methods to strip the old crased varnish. I seem to recall Don Casey suggests a heat gun and a putty style knife. Has anyone had good luck with chemical liquid stripping compounds? Here come the winter boat projects.
Thank you.
