I have a long shaft Honda 2hp on an M15. Initially it dragged in the water and wouldn't lock in the up position. I added a 1 1/2 in thick block of wood to the factory motor mount and mounted so that the new top of the motor mount was 2" higher. This was done to be able to clamp the motor on the bracket. The jaws aren't wide enough to use in the standard bracket + a 1 1/2 inch extra block. This does make the effective long shaft decrease by 2" so it is like having an 18" shaft rather than a 20" but it has worked well. By the way, the last cruise was rough enough to bounce the motor on the retain lever enough times to bend it so the latch wouldn't catch. It does straighten with a hammer but I now keep the pressure off it with a bungee cord around the handle to the edge of the transom. Thanks Doug Kelch "Seas the Day" --- "William B. Bill is right. The mount on my 1981 model is visibly shorter than some of the newer boats. I haven't measured the difference.
No way would my short-shaft Honda lock down, even with a board extender. It dragged on starboard tacks. I have since added an adjustable mount.
Doug Kelch can lock his Honda down on Seas the Day, #310.

John, When you can, please measure the distance from the hull to the outside edge of the mount. Could be there is a small difference in some of them. I know on the P-15, it
works the same way, some can some can't tilt & lock the motor. A measurement
may help to find out the difference. Bill _______________________________________________
