I ran a line from an eye strap just aft of the perpendicular line of the cringle up through the cringle and back down to a block and turned it forward about 2 feet to a small cleat. When the sail is up all the way I have just enough line to make the run up to the cringle, back down to the block and throught the hollow in the cleat with a stopper knot. To reef the rear I just pull the line and lift the boom at the same time and cleat it off. It requires so little effort because the boom is so light. If I were to do it again I might be tempted to use another eye instead of the block. I use the same configuration for the forward cringle/tack. I am going to mount some small blocks on my 17 boom to pull down reefs in a hurry. On my larger boat, I ran a line from the becket on the block, under the boom, through the reef cringle, down to the sheave on the block, and forward to a cleat. I am wondering if this will work on my tiny boom as well, or if I should anchor the line on an eyestrap opposite the block. Anyone?
Thanks, Tom Jenkins
