Subject: RE: M_Boats: Montgomery 15 tabernackle
This topic came up several years ago, and thinking it was a good idea, I purchased and installed the tabernackle and pin on my 1984 M15. The pin tabernackle works great - really simplifies the task of raising the mast.
The only drawback is the installation. The mounting holes on the replacement did not match up with the original tabernackle mounting hole in the deck. It seems like there wasn't room to drill matching hole in the new fitting so I ended up filling the old holes in the deck and going through the process to drill new mounting holes. Although the installation came out just fine, drilling holes in my then new (to me) Montgomery was nerve racking. There is info in the achieves on the proper way to drill and fill holes in a balsa cored deck.

The mast tabernackle I use can be installed on the older boats. Go to www.dwyermast.com and click on the DM-4 mast. (we use the DM-4 mast for the 15) You can see a photo of the tabernackle and pin assembly we use. The part number for the tabernackle is DH 2173. The part number for the pin set is DH 2174P. The pin is 5/16 and is stainless. It should be mounted 1 3/4 inches from the base of the mast. This system makes stepping the M_15 mast a simple procedure. Fair winds, Bob
