Thanks, Bob. It's definitely the 4X2, rather than 4X4, for me: I'm 5' tall and have to perform gymnastics to get in and out of every 4X4 made (the 4X2s sit reasonably close to the ground) . . . But I'm the perfect size for my 17! I think you're right, that should lean toward the V6. --Craig ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bob Campbell" <racsrv@attbi.com> To: <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 30, 2002 2:22 AM Subject: Tongue Weight I towed my M-17 with a '96 Toyota Tacoma extended cab 4X4 last season and it did a good job with the exception of a bit of a choppy ride down our pristine California interstates (Not!). My impression is that the 4 banger would probably do the job too but I would definitely lean towards the 6. This year Alina's being dragged around by a V8 Tundra... What trailer??? This different dealer said the Tacoma 4-cylinder had 3,500 lbs towing capacity, the V6, 5,000 lbs: Correct or no, this seems to make more sense. I would think, with the M17, I would want the V6. --Craig ----- Original Message ----- From: <Sandyal55@aol.com> To: <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Sunday, April 28, 2002 10:18 PM Subject: Tongue Weight In a message dated 04/29/2002 12:30:10 AM !!!First Boot!!!, chonshell@ia4u.net writes: 4-cylinder Tacoma has the same towing capacity as the 6-cylinder. I'm not an expert on Toyotas but it's possible that the 4 cyl has the same torque as the 6. Toyota's 6 has a bad rep for torque. It's a high revving motor that doesn't like being lugged. It develops it's HP at higher RPM's. The 4 has a longer stroke and develops torque at lower RPM's. The dealer should have engine specs to see before buying. Sandy
