I will say - sailing is cheaper than planes. These days it is $200 to get the $100 hamburger. I always wanted to own a Maule and went to the factory for a test flight. Flew it with Ray Maule and can say I never did a faster recovery in an accelerated stall than the Maule. Ray even completed me. I think it better than a Super Cub on landing. I didn’t buy because of insurance rates. On a new 180 it was $7000 annually no matter the model.
There is an older one that just came to our grass strip.

Charles, like you, am also a fly sailor. Used to bum around in a '61 Piper Colt. Now it's a Maule. Both good airplanes. Both plane and boat go from A to B on the lift-from-airflow-around-a-curved-surface principle, but am still amazed how one of them goes 120 mph, while the other is lucky to reach 5, and above that is just too fast, sort of like yellow or red lining the airspeed in the plane. Good luck with your future M17 adventures, and getting yourself another plane. - Brad
