Re: M_Boats: More on keels

Hello Howard and listers, My M17 has no cavity in the keel similar to yours Howard. Jerry tells us the M17's were built both ways. I don't know if there is a hull number that corresponds to keel or no keel cavity. My M17 is an early one, 1976 hull #92. The M23 is a whole different scenario. I do have a bilge that will drain into a hollow portion in the top section of the keel. I estimate it to be about 16" deep. The pickup hose from the cockpit mounted bilge pump feeds to it. It will pump out most of the water but not all. When I sponge out the last bit of water before winter layup, it is rust colored. Perhaps there is some steel in there? Later, Bones
