Up here on the salty North Atlantic boaters avoid boat trailer brakes unless the boat/Trailer/outboard combination weight approaches the legal requirement of 3000 pounds. This is to avoid brake corrosion problems common around here. Right now I am investigating upgrading from my 4 cyl RAV4 because my new boat/motor/Trailer rig weighs 1914 lbs as per a highway weigh station. BTW. No brakes on the new rig. I'm considering a 4 cylinder SUV that claims 1500 lb tow capacity with brakes and 1000 without. Has any put brakes on a mid-80s M15 Trailrite trailer? .
Any recommendations, pros/cons?
