Although I consider them very well made sails, I have not used my boat that much over the years so that is more likely why they have held up so well. I have a main, working jib (100%) , and a jenny (150%) that sheets outside the shrouds. It is my understanding that McKibbin is long gone from the sail making industry. They were in Newport Beach/Costa Mesa, CA area. When it was my turn to own the FD Coyote, there were 13 bags of sails on board. Most of them were pretty well used, but almost all of them were McKibben sails - kelly green sail bags....

My 1978 boat also came with Reggie Armstrong sails. Main and working jib. Those 0 plus year old blown out sails often had her doing 5.7 knots going to weather. n a puff she would start thinking about jumping up on plane. None of my eplacements, including a new main and 110% jib by Kern have ever done as well. ould love to have a brand new exact replica of old Reggie's work. (Rumor has it e was a bit of a character). I was told the old sails should be tossed or used s a drop cloth, but I kept them out of the hope some curious sailmaker could uplicate the voodoo lurking within.
lso have sails by Pattison and Ullman from San Diego. No complaints with those t all.

The other original sailmaker was Armstrong. His sails were still on my '76 model when I bought it in 2000. Larry

Well, if your sails were sewn by Kern Fergussun (sp?) you can be pretty sure they are original. Jerry used Kern and somebody else I don't remember. t

Hi Bert,
A few of us have had to send our old M15 sails to the maker to get an accurate cut. If time will permit, I would recommend you doing the same. Sometimes it saves some back and forth. As Dave mentioned, over the years, changes happen and it's difficult to tell if your sails are stock, or even what stock was for your boat.

Thank you for the guidance,David. Your info regarding having to rig the jib sheets outside the shrouds if an over size jib is used is especially helpful.RTH.

M15 sail dimensions here -
http://www.msog.org/specs/m15sailmeasure.cfm
i suggest you measure your current sail 'just to be sure' that your boat is 'standard'. there have been slight changes over the years, and some owners make their own modifications.
discussions of what the dimension letters mean -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sail-plan#Sail-plan_measurements
128% jib and 85% jib refer to the percentage of the fore-triangle (mast / forestay / deck). 100% would just fill the triangle.
going much greater than 128% of the M15 jib requires you to run the sheets
outside of the shrouds. this requires you to put a block on the toe-rail. sheeting outside the shrouds reduces the M15's ability to point into the wind.
when i had a 15 i was tempted to get, but never did get, a 'cruising spinnaker' to use in reaching and downwind situations ... light winds being very common in puget sound during the summer 'sailing' months.

Hello All, Does anyone have the exact dimensions for a M15 mainsail, those required to supply to the sailmaker who make the sail? I have the same question concerning the jib. Would also welcome comment on features necessary and/or useful on a new sail. With regard to the jib,is increasing the size a good idea, or do I go with the standard? Has anyone experience with using a drum and swivel jib furling system on the M15 ? Finally what does the term”85% jib “ mean? Thanks. I know the answers are out there.
