David, You might try Laguna Seca racetrack, which has camping for race- goers, and might allow camping between races; picturesque place to camp, especially if the grassy hills are still green. Tom Jenkins On Jun 22, 2011, at 12:23 PM, jerry wrote:
David- I've been to a million outrigger canoe races there, and usually from Sacramento I just left in the evening and slept in the back of my jeep, but I've stayed at a campground before and it seems like it's associated with the racetrack there- can't remember the name. I've also stayed at a Motel 6, which wasn't too bad. Salinas is nearby and a much lower-rent town, and I've stayed there also.
Good luck and see you at the race.

I am thinking of attending the Cruiser Challenge in Monterey next month with my Montgomery 15 but a quick check on lodging costs was a little daunting. I wondered if this group had any experience and suggestions on economical but not creepy places to stay. A hotel or campground with showers within a half hour's drive would be fine. I'll have my kids, 12 and 14 with me. Good advice appreciated!
