It's not expensive (other than replacement every two years), but in some ways a simple, heavy duty polytarp may be best, draped over the mast and tied down with trucker's hitches. First, it's lightweight, making it much, much easier to pull on and off the boat. Second, its rectangular shape allows the ends to be open, which provides plenty of ventilation. I tie it down at the bow, stern, and amidships. I think my tarp is 12'x16'. The silver, heavy duty tarps last about twice as long as the light duty blue ones, here in Tennessee. Works for me!
