to follow up on the 'visual checks' to see if an M15 is steel or lead ballasted. attached is a picture of the 'steel hump' under the forward part of the v-berth. -- :: Dave Scobie :: former M15 owner - www.freewebs.com/m15-named-scred :: M17 #375 SWEET PEA - www.m17-375.webs.com On Sun, Nov 16, 2014 at 1:54 PM, Dave Scobie <scoobscobie@gmail.com> wrote:
The M15 went to lead around 1987 (or so). Look under the forward v-betth hatch as a 'quick check' as the steel ballasted boats have a 'hump' in this location (just forward of the porta-potti' bulkhead).
Best to check the centerboard as it has been reported some boats have lead in keel and the board is filled with steel (and vica versa).
My M15 had steel and was fine. Don't write off a boat until you confirm the keel's and center board's conditions.

What year did the Monty 15 start getting lead in her keel and centerboard rather than steel/iron? -Alec
