Another possibility for computer/gps connectivity is OziExplorer. It's been around a long time and seems to get consistently high reviews. It is ca. $75 shareware and can use a variety of different files for maps. For example, if you have a paper chart, you can scan or photograph it, then load a .jpg image into Ozi, calibrate it, and voila, you are in business, with the ability to create waypoints and routes by pointing and clicking and downloading them to your gps or even hooking your gps to your laptop and having Ozi draw your route as you sail along.
