No, Ron, With increasing experience as well as age, you now know the difference between gadgets and things that always work when the chips are down. The old-timers knew a thing or too as well, and those that didn't learn aren't with us anymore. In the aviation industry there is an old saying: There are old pilots and there are bold pilots; but there are no old bold pilots. Best regards and happy splashing with Griselda Connie Ronnie Keeler wrote:
Connie,
I am with you and have a downhaul for my jib which runs to the housetop along with all the rest of my lines. I also have had problems with roller furling jibs so, have stayed with hank on sails. Keeping tension on the jib downhaul and one jib sheet will keep the jib under control on the foredeck until it is safe to go forward. Even when trailering, I set everything up at dockside (including feeding the sail slugs) or on the trailer, before setting out to avoid having to leave the safety of the cockpit if things get nasty. I even wear my PFD with a harness built in and have a tether line to put on if it really gets dicey.
As I get older I get more risk adverse or maybe I am just getting some common sense.
