Yeah, some of us in the club were joking about getting it donated to the Hilo Sailing Club... :-) Not sure who owns it now, on the island, but when it was for sale a handful of years ago on the Big Island (and I was still living there most of the time) I did talk to the people who had it for sale. Never saw it out sailing anywhere though. THe asking price was, for the economy there or just in general for an '83 M15, astronomically high, they were asking something over $8K as I recall. Some pics of Strawanza, the modified M17 that's in NZ now, were posted here quite a while back. cheers, John S. Michael Mann wrote:
Hello, the book, "A Little Breeze to the West" is also available on Amazon. The "Little Breeze" is still sailing the water of the Big Island in Hawaii. Rgds, Michael Mann

Mark sailed to the mouth of the Amazon, then got tired of it. Last I heard he was flying a plane in FL, towing an advertising banner around in circles.

Ya, I have the book in the 15, but I thought someone went farther in a 17? Maybe I'm losing it.. It's so interesting, I'd love a hawaii run. Jazz On Aug 22, 2016 9:43 PM, "Bill Ahrens" <billahrens@comcast.net> wrote:
What happened to the guy that had the modified 17, Mark Hightower? That brought his boat to San Carlos about 30 years ago?

You're talking about Mike Mann, who sailed from Newport Beach to Hawaii. He did write a book about it; I think SCA sells it. he came to the Wrinkle Boat regatta in Jan. He went to the Maritime Academy BEFORE sailing to HI, and was second in command but probably retired now; it was imminent.

Hi Jazz,
He left from San Diego and sailed to Hawaii in an M15. As soon as I can dig through my pile of debris on my desk I'll provide name; dates of voyage; and what happened.
He wrote a great book about his trip; and when he returned to the USA, he went to the Mariner's Academy in California, and today is a Captain of large ships traveling the high seas.
