Bill- I haven't raced the 15 much, but I think it would perform a little better if the shrouds were a little loose, just as most racing dingies with a triangular rig (like the 15) do. This lets the mast swing forward a bit when going downwind, which makes the main more effective, and puts some sag in the forestay which makes the jib fuller. Ffor the sailing I did with the 15 (mostly cruising) I simply adjusted the rig so that when putting up the mast I could put the pin in the forestay without working too hard at it, but if I were going to rig the boat for optimum speed I would leave it a little looser. Anyone care to chime in about tuning M-15 side stays? When on tack, the loaded stay of course is tight. Question is... How loose might the unloaded stay be? I've been on some boats where there is very little play and on others, where the stay is just flopping about. The concern to me is... without the mast compression post, should the stays be set at the rated 10% of breaking strength of should they be looser? Thanks, Bill _______________________________________________ http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/montgomery_boats
