One comment to add to Dave's excellent summary is that, in my experience at least, the big freighters approaching Turn Point will usually broadcast a warning message on vhf 16 as they approach from either direction. As Dave mentioned, they close on you surprisingly quickly so give them lots of room! I've had some delightful sails across Haro Strait as well as some windless transits under power and sometimes both on the same passage. Enjoy!
