This string of personal experiences has been fun to read, especially with the cold, wet weather settling in down here in south Texas. I thought of another time in my Monty 17. I used to sail out of Seabrook, Tx. which involved navigating a rather narrow cut where Mud Lake exits into the bay. I took the boat out often to sail at night, a magical time. Once when coming back in about midnight I was back in the cut just ghosting along, reticent to start the ob and disturb the quiet when without barely a sound a 60 foot double gaff rigged schooner swooped by me going out into the bay. The full moon backlit the sails as it "scooned" by giving them an aged linen appearance. As quickly as it had appeared it was gone leaving only a trail of bubbles to tell me it was real. A beautiful moment for someone who has been in various stages of "sea struck" for most of his life.
