Larry! Great video! And 'Knocking on Heaven's door' was very appropriate. Good illustration of what not to do with a boat. ~~~_/)~~~Gary Hyde 2005 M17 #637 sailboat 'Hydeaway 2'
Intense. When I see someone in one of those 26M's and I automatically think....motorboat driver/sailor wannabe. I bet he was freaked being out in the Straight, had no idea what slack is and figured that 50 hp outboard would get him through against the flow. Gotta give it to him though, he got through. Any sailboat with the usual amount of power and any amount hull or keel below the waterline would not have had such a happy ending. I have always felt that that opening has a misleading name...Boat Passage..... "Go THIS Way". ~:0) Awesome vid Larry, thanks. Tim in Kelowna

Here's a link to a video I took during the San Juan / Gulf Island cruise of a MacGregor 26M running a tidal rapid. Boat Passage is a gap through Saturna Island where you can cautiously take a boat through from Winter Cove to the Strait of Georgia during high slack tide. It is not recommended at any other time, and certainly not when this guy went through.
