HAS ANYONE TRIED THIS IDEA? ALSO - ANYONE MAKE A DODGER FOR THE M17? THANKS Lon SELKIE ============ ============ ========== [Dick Straubel Sat, 20 Sep 2008 08:06:11 -0700] Would increase the draft by the thickness of the metal plate. When heeled, the wing might go down deeper as it tilts, but not significant and would not increase draft more than the thickness of the plate when not heeled. The plate could actually be quite thin, and weight or original board could be replaced by pouring a lead/resin gruel down into the trunk from above. The trick would be to design the rake of the wing blades and determine the position of the wing plate fore and aft on the keel to achieve the best helm balance. I believe the point of raking/sweeping the wings is to adjust the center of lateral resistance aft as the boat heels so the helms stays close to balanced ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Thu, 9 Apr 2009 16:33:50 -0400 From: <htmills@zoominternet.net> To: "'For and about Montgomery Sailboats'" <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Subject: Re: M_Boats: DODGERS Message-ID: <000c01c9b952$7db96a50$792c3ef0$@net> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Lon, I have one: http://www.htmills.com/images/LF-dodger.jpg http://www.htmills.com/images/LF-BellCove.jpg http://www.htmills.com/images/LF-WilfredLaurierAnchored.jpg http://www.htmills.com/images/LF-dodger1.jpg http://www.htmills.com/images/LF-dodger2.jpg http://www.htmills.com/images/LF-dodger3.jpg http://www.htmills.com/images/LF-dodger4.jpg Came with the boat. To install it on the boat, it screws to the companionway trim and the side pieces snap on. Tod

First sea trials on the Gaff Cutter M15 were held Saturday in light and variable winds 0 - 8 kts.
SHE IS A KEEPER!!!!!
She is light on the helm and fast.? I was humming along at up to 4.5 kts in the 8 kt periods with little heel and a light weather helm while pointing.
Much to my surprise she points extremely well and may even be able to point higher and go faster than she did as a sloop.
As expected the weather helm is a bit strong going downwind with that long boom/mainsail off to the side.? I guess I will have to get a large sail to pole out on the windward side if it proves to be excessive.
She does have a slight lee helm in the very light air even with the mast raked aft, but I can live with that.
What a hoot having it all come together.
No pictures as the trials were kept private due to the potential embarrassment but I hope to get some on the next outing.
There were a few things that need tweaking.? I had the forestay too close to the staysail and the roller furling rolled around the forestay.? I removed the forestay and I do not think I will put it back as the two jibs both have wire luffs.? A malicious attack by jealous boaters could dismast me with a knife attach on the halyards but I will take this risk.
YAHOOOOOOOOOOO.
Thanks
Doug
