Heh...actually, mailman is one of the oldest listserv softwares on the internet. Vintage 1980's I think in its origins. But it has been well maintained and so does it's relatively simple job well. Haven't looked at TrailerSailor except when I'm googling something and get some hits that are on that forum. Thing is, pictures are still buried in forum threads. No way to collect them in albums of just pictures and captions, or even a bunch of pictures in one location. cheers, John S. On 01/27/2016 02:32 PM, Tyler Backman wrote:

Dave, A similar chart for the M-15 would be useful too. I remember asking you about the M-15 sheets and lines at Pocket Yacht Palooza in Port Townsend, jotting the information in my notebook, then going into the WoodenBoat Foundation Chandlery with my VISA card in hand and buying what I needed, but I would appreciate the information again in a format like you used for the M-17. About the only piece that isn?t coming apart is the centerboard pendant. It?s tempting to leave it alone as I don?t really have a plan for getting at the centerboard.

Ah, good point Henry. No albums on trailer sailor. A Yahoo group or other similar would be better for that. ie the Nor'sea Yahoo group. If the MSOG site or the old photo site I think Dave Scobie is working on preserving allows that, then so much the better, wait for that. It may have the older and still good content.
Nonsuch boats have a Pbase photo site with something like that, but it is not administered anymore. Now just an orphaned photo site.

Henry, I was thinking of having a small heater on board with you just to see how condensation affected you or any other things you might have not thought of so haven't addressed until you have been surprised on a lake somewhere far away from your shop. Google "Bailing Out On Texoma Sailfest" and you will get the low down on what the festivities entail. Tom

Hi Henry, Next January is far enough away that it might be possible to include a trip to AZ. in my wife's and my travel wishes for 2017. I would really like to make one of those. It is great fun sailing with similar or same boats. And the other half of the fun is finding out what others do to solve problems or make their boats more comfortable. I am shooting this year for the get together on lake Texoma north of Dallas. It is a 500 mile haul so a good shakedown trip for even longer adventures. Have you tried sleeping aboard your boat where it is stored for the winter? That would be very informative, I bet. I use that "Trailer Sailor " site. Will look into posting some pictures there of my grand bateau.

Hi Tom, I don't think the turning radius of the sheaves will be a problem. Dyneema/Spectra is being used to replace towing cables on ocean going tug boats where it is repeatedly wound around winches. Off-road enthusiasts are using it on their truck mounted winches. It is also being used in the logging industry instead of logging chains. I'm sure there is a minimum turning radius for a given diameter of line. I haven't googled it but I don't think the sheaves on our wee ships will cause a problem. (As long as they are grooved for rope, not wire.). The main and jib halyards do not turn 180 degrees on single sheaves anyway. They turn 90 degrees on one side of the mast, go across the masthead, and then turn down 90 degrees on the other side. (Can't find the *~?!^* "degree" key on this keyboard!)
Even if the halyard were to lose 50% of its strength because of improper turning radii it would still have a breaking strength of 1000 lb!
Tom, any chance of you going to GO's WICR in Phoenix next January? I'm going to do my best to get there (from Minneapolis.). I would love to see your boat in person and steal/ swap ideas! Got some great ideas when I went last year. In the mean time, post lots of pictures!
Which brings up another subject: can we post new pictures or albums on the MSOG or MSOG PHOTO sites? I'll post that question on a new thread so as not to hijack this one.

Ok. lets all use that for photos. We can refer to that if we want to show pictures of what we are doing with our boats now. < https://www.avast.com/sig-email?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaig...

Why not just post, pics and all to the Montgomery forum on TrailerSailor? It is all set up. The Monty forum there is certainly underutilizes compared to some of the other class forums on that site. You don't even have to deal with the main board if you don't want to.

One suggestion...
Move to a Yahoo group, which has file and picture sharing and the option to get mail or view messages on web or both. I'm in a few other groups (including sailboat groups) that use Yahoo groups and it works well to augment the e-mail listserv piece we already have. Pictures can be in "albums" as well so it's not just one big pile of pictures.
This list is AFAIK a mailman listserv - e-mail list - which is basically all mailman does (and does it very well, for decades now, but, it's just an e-mail list server, doesn't provide any other features/functions)
There are other more techie options I won't go into now because they involve upgrading the MSOG site to something we can all "join" and then have ability to share pictures, files, etc..
cheers, John S.

The TrailerSailor site is great for allowing you to include photos with a post in a particular thread but can you post a bucket load of pictures about a particular project or solution and organize them into albums or folders? I guess I?ll wait for the MSOG update.
