Hale, Being a dog owner and a book reader, I cannot visualize how either type of dog ear could be sewn into a grommet, and how it would help reefing. A piece of 3/16 line with a big knot on one end and a loop on the other sure helps to fasten a grommet to the reefing hook, however. On Jul 8, 2012, at 2:31 PM, Hale Irwin wrote:
I have 2011 M-15.. TUN TAVERN. The boat comes without reefing. One block and cleat is for topping lift and other set for out-haul. I just added 2 cheeck blocks aft on each side of the boom and cleats forward on the boom and reef hook so It now is reefable and a lot easier to sail!
Take a look at the forum: http://bbs.trailersailor.com/forums/montgomery/index.cgi/read/4839
From Trailer Sailor Forum: While your mast guy has your boom I suggest he install cheek blocks and cleats for both points of reefing; also a reefing hook at the mast end of the boom. Your sail may need to have dog ears" sewn into the grommets on the luff of the sail . I just had this done..... Probably the most important addition I have done on this new boat.....
