McAfee is fine. Also Norton Antivirus from Symantec. We use both in a highly sensitive environment and they work as advertised. cheers- Shawn Boles Grey Mist (M17 #276 1978) -----Original Message----- From: Harvey Hochstetter [mailto:LoHHochs@ihc.com] Sent: Wednesday, January 09, 2002 1:25 AM To: Montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com Subject: M_Boats: Virus Protection Question. Greetings M_Boat Sailors All this virus traffic is really interesting to me. Being a computer user by force at work, I did mostly just whatever I needed to do to get the job done, T H E N, I found out that (after they put us onto the internet) that I could find out all kinds of interesting things, like who has Montgomery sailboats and who might have one to sell, and that there were all kinds of nice people out there that not only sail them but talk about them on their computers, that I have started to actually have fun on this thing as well. Since everything that come to me here at work goes through our corporate and local Info Tech layers, by the time it gets to me it is well checked and decontaminated so we don't have any bugs coming in or going out. That's nice for me because most of the virus stuff is still over my head. HOWEVER, since Deena hooked up to I-net at home and we are on this list there now too, I suspect that we had better start being careful. Not knowing one virus protection system from another, I found one, a McAfee virus program and a Hard disc organizer, that came in a set and got that for her for Christmas. Now, I am wondering if it is a good system or if there are better ones out there. Any coments would be greatly appreciated. When she tried to put in the McAfee system it seemed like it made things worse rather than better. Like I said, I don't know much about the system but I do know that she is using Windows 95, and the McAfee programs were supposed to work on that. Thanks again for the enlightening reading and for just being grand folks.
