I recall thinking that the strong smell in the forward locker of my boat was from the styrofoam. Instead it was the out gassing of the polyester resin used to build the boat. If the smell in your boat is a strong chemical kind of smell, that's probably it. If that's it I don't have a solution. My boat is 22 years old and the smell is as strong as if it were made yesterday. I have noticed that the more I use the locker space the less it bothers me. Maybe it's airing out or maybe I just getting use to it. I know the smell is polyester resin, because I once made the mistake of building a boat with that awful stuff. If you think that's the case get some polyester resin or a product containing it (like Bondo) at Home Depot. Open the can in the parking lot and you'll know right away if it's a match. It's like once you smell rancid oil, you know it for life. Then close the can and return it while your still there. Rick M15 #337 Bluebird (almost ready for the North Channel)
