As I understand it, biggest flaw in design is one that spins, as it tangles the trip line you use to retrieve it. The one with a weight and float opposite each other, and a trip line you can grab would be my choice. A guy might also want to use an anchor line or long dock line to move it out a little further from the boat if you are in rough water. The Pardey's let out enough line so that the chute and boat are riding together on top of the swells. Sometimes 300 feet or more on the ocean. Great Lakes waves are probably a lot closer than that.
