Dave, I am (still) in the process of restoring my M-5.8. The seat (Air Tank) used to trim the boat is cracked and takes on water. I had planned to cut a hatch into the air tanks and fill them with "Swim Noodles". I have used expanding foam in the past and after a few years, if water gets to it, it starts to brake down and cause a mess. That's my personal experience, yours may be different. I figured if the noodles become old and loose their buoyancy, I can always replace them a lot easier then trying to excavate expanding foam. I'll try and keep you posted on my progress. No, there wasn't. I don't see an easy way to add foam; are the air tanks still sealed?

Was there any floatation material installed in the M7-11 originally Jerry? Do you have any suggestions for adding some? Becky

The foam must have been by a previous owner.

Thank you Jerry! Can you also tell me about the floatation foam used on this dinghy? There are some blocks of foam in the bow and stern. If I wanted to add more foam what do you suggest?
Must be a very satisfying feeling knowing you have made so many Montgomery owners happy, happy, happy!

They're screwed right into0 the fiberglass seats; be sure when you re-install them that you bed the planks in polyurethane.

I recently acquired a 1986 M7-11 sailing dinghy. I smile every time I say this :)
I am in the process of refinishing the teak...I am a little nervous about removing the teak slats on the seats for refurbishing as I am not sure how/what they are screwed into.
Advice?
Becky
