Hi Jared... Ohhh Boy, you asked for advice...watch out. My 2 cents. I would just replace the V cleats you have with the same size. I imagine that Jerry put that size and that placement after trying several different ideas. A smaller line size may not be prudent for every situation. Most of the time I know that working the jib rarely needs winching and the original line seems large, however, on the Molly M, when the SF bay starts blowing, I'm very happy that I have a nice size sheet to work rather than something smaller that might dig into my hands. You should be able to find the same size in Aluminum. That would be an upgrade and the teeth really dig in. I changed the v cleats on both sides of the mainsail track to the aluminum and have been very happy with them. In addition, I would want to test the fairlead idea before I commited to it. In lighter winds or even med. winds it seems that any restriction of the sheet will keep an otherwise easy tack or jibe from happening in a timely fashion. That makes me think the fairlead would hold up the jib sheet with even the slightest kink in the line. Would love to hear if that's not the case, but I suspect that it is . I usually just put a figure 8 in the sheet and that keeps it from going through the block. Again..just my 2 cents with a slight green patina. Best, Michael Ray Molly M M 17 #383
