Hi Dave, The boat was towed on its own trailer and when it left my house it only had the bow eye attached and my one strap that goes over the boat at the end of the trailer. I don't know if he added more but interesting you mentioned this as my Melonseed was delivered to me last week and it had the normal strap at the end of the trailer but the driver attached another one at about the middle. I noticed on the roller that the forward part of the boat rests on was smashed flat. That boat only weighs a couple hundred pounds so I am thinking the strap caused the compression of the roller so I can see how that could cause a problem. Tomorrow she will probably have some pictures I will post that shows the cracks. Pacific worked on the trailer a year or so ago but they have done all of the Bob 17's and I think you used them on the Sages so hard to think they could have caused any harm. Not sure about the yard Mary used to do the bottom paint. I will ask Mary if there were multiple straps holding the boat down when it arrived at her house. Anyway I don't think anyone will claim responsibility so hopefully a repair can be made without too much expense for Mary. I would buy the boat back and do it myself but I think she really likes the boat so we will see in the next few days what she finds out and what the cost may be to repair her. Since you are a local WA guy do you know of a yard that has done any extensive work on Monty's? Anyway thanks for your input and I will keep you posted on what I find. Now starting to read like the shipper over-tightened a strap across the cockpit and compressed the hull into the bunks.
This happened to a M17 shipped from.CO to WA about 10 years ago.

Ok I have a bit more accurate description from Mary. It is not under the v-berth. "One crack is about an inch aft of the v-berth in the middle of the salon and right in the middle of a little round quarter size smooth depression in the sole. Another crack is just forward of where the tube for the control line enters the floor. Third crack is on the starboard side of the hull about three strakes up from the bilge. First crack around 1" long, second around 2" long and third around 4" long." She will get some pictures tomorrow which I will share. Thanks, Jim

Mary did go down to the boat this morning and did find water weeping in where there is a small crack around where the bulkhead for the v berth is located. From her description I can't really see in my mind where it is, but she is going to see if she can get some pictures tomorrow (she had some business today and will check back up this afternoon). Thanks for your input Mark and Bob. Jim

Thanks Mark. Salt water tells me that “perhaps” water is coming up the fiberglass tube we install for the pendant. Hopefully they didn’t drop the hull when they had the boat on the hoist… (It happens) cracking, flexing to open up something. The new owner could pull the boat to the trailer and fill the bilge with water and see where it drips overnight. Bob

Jim, On my M17 (which was a much older model) it was the cockpit drain tubes which had corroded to the point of leaking and allowing mystery water to appear in the bilge. Those 1.5" diameter tubes were glassed in below the waterline and the cockpit drain hoses connected to the metal ends of the tubes where they projected beyond the end of the glass. It took me a while to find where the water in my bilge was coming from but I finally slithered under the cockpit and inspected the drains with the boat in the water. I don't know if your boat was constructed the same way, but I would definitely check if there was any possibility that those drains could be compromised.
