No problem at all, Norm. I frequently raise the board when motoring to prevent it from slapping since there is no lateral load on it as there is on most points of sail. I often raise it when sailing downwind too. If the boat is rolling a lot, lowering the board can help dampen it out, but that isn't normally a problem at all. The board on a Montgomery is mostly just to help prevent the boat from slipping sideways quite so much and does very little for stability.
