Andrei, I've used top quality varnish, hardware store quality polyurethane and Cetol. Varnish quit first, 6 to 12 months, depending on latitude; polyurethane maybe 50% longer, Cetol much longer. I did the spars on my old Cape Cod Catboat several years ago, always in the sun, still look great. Just bought Cetol Marine Light, less orangy it says, haven't used it yet. But I think it may be the answer for me. Will haul my tiller and rudder off soon, strip, sand and do them with the Light. Check them on the web. Good luck. John R.
