I found the Mercury at: http://www.mercurymarine.com/mercury_4_fourstroke_sailpower It looks interesting but I know nothing of the quality. I really appreciate your insight. I could have made a costly mistake. Bill On Monday, May 12, 2003, at 06:59 PM, DDAYSTROM@aol.com wrote:
Bill,
I believe the Merc 4,5,6, Nissan/Tohatsu 4,5,6 will work much better on the transom cut, than the Yamaha. Before I bought the Yamaha I had a 8hp 2cycle Tohatsu.

Thanks for the heads up. My boat is a 1978 and does have the transom cutout. Have you found an outboard that will work with the cutout? How about the Mercury 4 Four Stroke Sailpower, the tiller appears to be on the left side of the motor.
