Hi sailing buddies, Here is a video of a McGregor 25 that happen to lose his forestay in Newfound Channel right in front of the home we are renting in the lower Keys. I quickly threw on my trunks and water socks and waded out to assist. Apparently the roller jib unfurled on its own and popped out the quickpin at the base of the drum. Then, they fouled the Avon dingy painter in the outboard prop. Then, they drop the danforth but it wouldn’t grab. It was blowing about 15 to 20 in the channel. These guys were from Georgia, and great fellows. They never panicked or raised their voices. Although they bent a bunch of hardware, we got the mast raised with the gin pole and they were on their way. Stressful start to a sailing trip!! It added fun to my afternoon.
