Thanks Dave, I had a similar question about the sheaves - my M17 has had all-rope halyards - sounds like it will work OK, same deal on M17? And - what about using Dyneema or equivalent "no-stretch" cord for halyards, or at least for replacing the wire part if it's beat? Or did someone already post about that, pardon me if I missed it, have been buried in mail lately. thanks, John S. On 02/10/2016 03:51 PM, Dave Scobie wrote:

if you like the length just duplicate. if want a little longer add a few few. always better a bit long the too short! ;-)
the mast, if to Jerry's spec, is 19'2" including masthead fitting. you can use this as a method to measure your current halyard.
1/4" double braid is fine.
now, if the wire to rope is in good condition i would recommend keeping ... less stretch that results in better main sail shape (the luff doesn't elongate as much causing the sail to bag). a wire-to-rope jib halyard really helps keep a headsail from bagging at the luff.
the masthead sheaves, if the correct ones for wire (meaning the wire didn't damage them), are fine for 'rope'.
