long-vs-short shaft outboard motor for the M15
No experience in long vs standard, but a datapoint: I've used three ss motors on my M-15 (old Johnson 4HP, Honda 5HP and Honda 2HP). They all pop the exhaust out of the water when I go forward, but otherwise work just fine. The Honda 2HP has an air-cooled engine -- only the exhaust is water cooled, so this lifting from the water isn't a problem. A standard shaft is better if you plan on ever using it as a dinghy motor (the other use for my Honda 2HP). Giles Morris Arlington VA Vancouver 25 "Dolphin" Montgomery 15 "Umiaq" Sundry small craft
